The AI Prompt Directory: What it’s all about

Why I Wrote This Playbook
I’m incredibly excited to announce the release of my latest work, “The AI Prompt Directory: A Playbook of Prompt Engineering for Product Leaders and Entrepreneurs”. This book is a culmination of my observations and experiences building products and especially seeings how AI is rapidly transforming product building workflows.
As I like to say:
"A month in AI is like a year in any other industry or technology", and this guide is designed to help you keep pace.
For over 15 years, I’ve been building and scaling product organisations across various sectors, and one thing has become clear: mastering prompt engineering is now becoming an essential skill for anyone looking to leverage Artificial Intelligence effectively. I noticed a real need for practical guidance that goes beyond theory. This directory emerged from my own journey using AI tools to enhance product decision-making and from seeing the challenges product teams and entrepreneurs face when trying to harness these powerful new capabilities. I wish I had these tools back when I co-founded Remote Coach (now Cliq).
At its core, prompt engineering is simply the art and science of crafting effective instructions with context for Large Language Models (LLMs) to produce desired outputs. The way you structure these instructions, the context you provide, and the language you use can dramatically impact the quality and usefulness of the AI’s response. We’re now at a point where you can even include multiple steps within a single prompt using techniques like chain-of-thought, allowing for more sophisticated analysis in a single interaction.
How Prompt Engineering Can Transform Your Work
For product teams and entrepreneurs navigating the complex landscape of software development, well-crafted prompts can offer transformative benefits:
- Accelerate Decision-Making: Extract insights from vast amounts of data to inform product strategy and roadmap decisions much faster than traditional methods.
- Enhance Creativity: Generate novel ideas and approaches to product challenges that might not emerge through conventional brainstorming.
- Improve Efficiency: Automate routine tasks like documentation, analysis, and reporting, freeing up your valuable time for higher-value activities.
- Increase Consistency: Standardise approaches to recurring processes across your teams and projects.
- Facilitate Learning: Help team members quickly understand complex concepts, technologies, or market dynamics.
So, about "The AI Prompt Directory"
The directory is structured to provide you with specific, ready-to-use prompts organised by key business objectives. You will find sections dedicated to helping you:
- Increase Revenue: Harness AI to identify untapped market segments, optimise pricing strategies, forecast revenue, and enhance customer lifetime value. For instance, AI can analyse market data to find new customer segments in hours, a task that might take a traditional research team weeks.
- Improve Customer Experience: Leverage AI for customer research and insights, user experience enhancement, customer support optimisation, and personalisation strategies. Imagine AI analysing thousands of customer feedback points in minutes to identify key patterns and sentiment.
- Reduce Costs: Discover how AI can help you with process and technical optimisation, and even vendor and tool optimisation. This could mean identifying inefficiencies in workflows or optimising cloud infrastructure costs.
- Gain Competitive Advantage: Use AI for competitive intelligence, market differentiation, innovation strategy, and strategic foresight. AI can continuously monitor competitor activities, identifying shifts before they become obvious.
- Expand to New Markets: Identify promising opportunities, assess entry requirements, and develop robust go-to-market strategies. AI can synthesise complex compliance information across different jurisdictions, saving considerable time and expense.
- Upskill Product Manager Skills: This section is all about accelerating professional development, from product strategy and prioritisation to stakeholder management and technical knowledge. AI can generate comprehensive measurement frameworks for your product metrics strategies or even simulate difficult stakeholder conversations for practice.
A key must-act-moment in the book is building on the concept of AI Projects. Think of a Project as your AI-powered workspace, containing a Master Prompt that defines the AI’s role and tone throughout your initiative, and Reference Documents that give the AI a deep understanding of your operating context. This allows the AI to provide highly nuanced, non-generic responses, grounded in your actual product strategy. In fact, I’ve included a detailed Master Prompt Template in Bonus Chapter 2 to get you started immediately.
Cautions and Best Practices
While AI is a powerful ally, it’s vital to approach prompt engineering with caution. Always critically evaluate AI-generated content (“hallucinations” can occur), and treat prompt engineering as an iterative process. Remember to respect confidentiality by avoiding sensitive business information unless using a secure AI deployment, and always consider the ethical implications of your AI use. Furthermore, before integrating AI tools, understand your company’s AI, data, and IT policies regarding data security, approved tools, intellectual property, and compliance. Different LLMs also have different capabilities, so understanding their strengths is crucial.
I believe "The AI Prompt Directory" will become an indispensable guide for any product leader or entrepreneur looking to effectively harness AI's power to build and scale products. Happy prompting (or context engineering as itβs more recently being referred as).
